Located on the campus of South Dakota State University, the South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum is dedicated to preserving and inspiring a passion for the history of agriculture and the rural way of life in South Dakota. Inside the museum special, permanent exhibits illustrate our state's heritage, like the enormous 1915 J.I. Case Steam Traction Engine 65 horsepower, a replica 1915 farmhouse and an 1862 homestead shanty. Even the outside of the museum was restored to its 1925 appearance. The current exhibits include Barley to Barrel: Science and History of Brewing in South Dakota, open through December 2017. Also currently on display is, The Unspun Tale: Sheep in South Dakota. As fifth in the nation for sheep production, it plays a vital role in our agricultural economy. This exhibit is on display until October 1, 2017. The museum offers numerous educational opporutunities through tours and speciality programs, click here for school or group tours. And don’t forget about the Museum Store, which offers guests the opportunity to buy items relating to South Dakota’s culture, agriculture and history, as well as handmade items from local and regional residents.

The South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum is also part of our Brookings Great 8 Passport program, encourging visitors and locals to explore our one-of-a-kind attractions.
