Brookings Commercial Historic District
With each brick laid and concrete poured, the streets of downtown Brookings tell a story of Classic Revival and Art Deco, along with Beaux-Arts and Romanesque architecture. A total of 59 buildings line Main Avenue, with 83 percent of the district construction taking place between 1894 and 1928. Visitors are encouraged to wander the streets and take in the sights of the historic district. The Brookings Historic Preservation Commission offers a map detailing the walking tour with brief descriptions about a few of the buildings.
