The Brookings Convention & Visitors Bureau has been in existence since 1982 operating as a committee of the Brookings Area Chamber of Commerce. However, in 2012 leaders from the Chamber recognized the need for further development of the Convention & Visitors Bureau as an independent organization – with the goal to elevate the focus and priority of the visitor industry in Brookings. It was then that the Chamber took the lead in educating and energizing community leaders, ultimately building momentum towards the creation of an independent Convention & Visitors Bureau board of directors and separate operating budget. While the Chamber and CVB co-exist under one roof, the reorganization provides a greater focus on the visitor industry, and the economic generator it is for Brookings and for the state of South Dakota.
As a progressive and growing community, the City of Brookings has embraced a renewed focus on the visitor industry – understanding whether here on business or for an SDSU sporting event, individuals come to Brookings first as a visitor, and we're thrilled to express our Midwest hospitality.
