Brookings is conveniently located on Interstate 29, which runs north-south, and Highway 14, which runs east-west through Minnesota. We’re just 45 minutes north of Sioux Falls and Interstate 90, which also runs east-west. If you’re looking for alternate or scenic routes, Highway 14 is a great way to get here and across the state to West River.
The Brookings Regional Airport strives to provide a safe, first class airport for regional residents and the flying community. The airport works diligently with the South Dakota State University Aviation Program and other local entities to provide flying instruction and other community activities related to aviation. This airport does provide some corporate business travelers with airline accommodations, but it is not a passenger airport.
The Sioux Falls Regional Airport (a.k.a. Joe Foss Field) can accommodate any kind of passenger airline travel and includes five airlines: Frontier, Allegiant, Delta, United and American Airlines. It offers connections to more than 200 domestic cities including direct flights to Minneapolis, Denver, Chicago, Las Vegas, Phoenix/Mesa, Dallas/Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Orlando and Clearwater/St. Petersburg.
For general transportation services, Brookings Area Transit Authority provides coordinated transportation services for all citizens in the Brookings Area, as well as a Safe Ride Home on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights. Advanced reservations may be scheduled Monday through Friday by calling dispatch at 605.692.2222. In addition, feel free to hail a cab with AAA Cabs at 605.692.5456.
For extended stays in Brookings, Mr. V’s Body Shop is an official Enterprise Car Rental Branch, located on Western Avenue and offers a wide selection of rentals. In addition, B&B Auto Sales, located on Main Avenue South, has a range of rental vehicles, including cars, trucks, minivans, SUVs, pickups and 15 passenger vans. Einspahr Auto Plaza also serves the Brookings area as a rental vehicle service, located on 8th Street South.

Summertime is the right time for road construction across America. Brookings is experiencing a much-needed update to our main exit and 6TH Street/Highway 14 roadway. Road construction on the I29 exit 132 to Brookings began in May and will continue through the summer. Traffic is being detoured and two-way traffic is to be expected on exit.
