SUMMARY:2022 MCCRORY GARDENS PHOTOGRAPHY: CALL FOR ENTRIES
DESCRIPTION:The Brookings Arts Council is hosting a call for art and photo contest as part of its 2022 Exhibition Calendar. This year’s theme for the exhibition and contest is images from McCrory Gardens. McCrory Gardens is a botanical garden and arboretum. It has over 25 acres of formal display gardens and 45 acres of arboretum featuring hundreds of different flowers\, trees\, shrubs and grasses in harmonious settings to display\, educate and further the development of new varieties. \nPhotos can be from any season but images must be from the gardens. Works submitted will be on exhibition at the Brookings Arts Council. During that time patrons can vote on the top 15 submitted which will then move to McCrory Gardens to be featured throughout the facility for 4 additional weeks. The 15 chosen will also be able to sell prints in the gift store at McCrory Gardens if they so choose. There is a $100 prize for the winning photo with the most votes. \nThe Brookings Arts Council (BAC) is located in the renovated historic former Carnegie Library. There are 103 feet of wall space and approximately 1300 square feet of floor space between two galleries. There are a variety of pedestals of various sizes available for use. \nDEADLINE FOR ENTRY SUBMISSION: \nEntries must be postmarked or at the Brookings Arts Council no later than June 4th\, 2022 \nThere is not an entry fee to submit a work but the BAC has the option to reject works not within guidelines set forth. \nNOTIFICATION : \nApplicants will be notified if they made the top 15 by June 30th\, 2022 \nRULES FOR ENTRY : \nAll photos must be of images from McCrory Gardens \nPhotos must have been taken within the last 3 years \nAll photos must be framed \nFrames must include a wire to hang \nOpen to Ages 13 and up \nEvery reasonable precaution will be taken to assure the safety of submitted artwork. However\, the Brookings Arts Council will not be responsible for loss or damage to artwork\, however caused. Artists are responsible for insuring their own work. \nThe BAC reserves the right to use images submitted by successful applicants for publicity purposes. DESCRIPTION:CALL FOR ART \nSTORIES & SPACES: Reclaiming the process of coming out \nStories & Spaces exhibition is centered on queer individual’s stories with coming out and the process and/or ongoing struggle to create spaces to forge their own personal identities. \nThis exhibit explores the struggle of coming out of the closet and being able to reclaim the process for themselves. Through the art and stories represented artists reflect and reclaim the space that is held for both trauma\, strength and in turn celebrate the juxtaposition of collective identities and stories. \nThe Brookings Arts Council (BAC) is located in the renovated historic former Carnegie Library. There are 103 feet of wall space and approximately 1300 square feet of floor space between two galleries. There are a variety of pedestals of various sizes available for use. \nDEADLINE FOR ENTRY SUBMISSION: \nEntries must be postmarked or at the Brookings Arts Council no later than October 21st\, 2021. \nThere is not an entry fee to submit a work \nRULES FOR ENTRY : \nIf photos/art are framed they must include a wire to hang \nOpen to all those in the LGBTQ community \nAll forms of art are welcome \nArtist may use a pseudonym on work on display but must leave correct contact information with the BAC. All information will remain private. \nEvery reasonable precaution will be taken to assure the safety of submitted artwork. DESCRIPTION:Join us at the BAC this summer to learn and create ceramics during our summer teen art camps. These are open to all ages but geared towards ages 11 and up. Teens will be guided through various ceramic projects each day throughout the week. All supplies will be provided with the cost of the class. \nThe Brookings Arts Council will be hosting as many of our camps outside as possible under tents during the summer. While inside the BAC mask will still be required. \nThis camp will require a second time two weeks after the class has finished to glaze works. A signup genius will be provided and times to complete glazing. Time required will only equal two hours at most.
