DESCRIPTION:Join for a fun and casual community bicycle ride around Brookings! Meet at the corner of 5th St. and Main Ave. by 6pm. \nBrookings Critical Mass takes place (weather permitting) on the last Friday of every month (January – October\, plus a ride on the night of Brookings’s festival of lights in early December). \nWhat is Critical Mass? Critical Mass is a bicycling event typically held on the last Friday of every month in over 300 cities around the world.\nIn Brookings\, the ride is open to all. Come meet other bicyclists and enjoy a casual ride around town. Routes may have a theme (schools\, water towers) or highlight an area of town. \nPlease dress for the weather and bring water\, sunscreen\, etc. Helmets and bike lights are encouraged. \nRides usually last about an hour. Afterwards\, anyone who is interested is welcome to join to go out to eat somewhere\, usually downtown. \nThis event is subject to cancellations due to weather. DESCRIPTION:Join us on Anderson Plaza\, behind the South Dakota Art Museum (1036 Medary Ave.)\, for free performances on Tuesday evenings (6-7:30 p.m.) in July. Bring your own picnic\, chair and blanket. We’ll have snacks and drinks for purchase\, yard games and plenty of space for fun on the Campus Green while you enjoy the performance. \nOn Tuesday\, July 29\, Paddywhack will perform traditional folk music from Ireland and the British Isles. With more than a dozen instruments and 3-part vocal harmonies\, Paddywhack offers a stunning variety of musical styles\, songs and dance tunes. Band members include Chris Sayre\, Terry Keefe and David Marsh. Their repertoire of songs includes acapella sea shanties\, Irish pub sing-alongs\, provocative ballads and rebel songs. Traditional dance tunes of jigs\, reels\, hornpipes and waltzes utilize their extensive list of instruments\, which includes guitar\, fiddle\, mandolin\, English concertina\, banjo\, tin whistle\, accordion\, hammered dulcimer\, piano\, bodhran (Irish drum) and more. So come “laugh\, dance and sing” with music inspired by the ancient Celts\, Scottish kilts\, English coal miners\, Irish leprechauns and an evening at the pub\, with the music of Paddywhack. \nIn case of inclement weather\, we’ll move the performance inside the art museum. Free parking is available the parking lots south and west of the museum\, no need for permits or passes after 4 pm.

DESCRIPTION:After almost two decades as a stand-alone event\, the Predictor races have been folded into the Run4Fun Brookings youth track series. The Predictor Mile was restarted in 2004\, based on similar runs conducted in the ’70s and ’80s.\nThe Predictor Mile is open to every age and fitness level. Fast\, slow or in between\, the prize goes to the person who best predicts his or her time for a one mile run on the track. Parents of Run4Fun participants are encouraged to enter the free event\, but any runner is welcome to match their prognostication and running abilities.\nNo watches allowed. \n​Kid’s Predictor 400 meter and 800 meter\nKids of all ages are invited to participate in the 400- and 800-meter predictor run.
