DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by the Griffith Education Fund. \nLive performance of the original score by Dmitr Shostakovich. \nThe South Dakota Symphony presents this timeless classic with live music. The film is set in the spring of 1871 during the time of the Paris Commune and immediately after the end of the Franco-Prussian War. Louise is employed as a salesperson in a wholesale store in Paris named “The New Babylon.” She is involved in the Commune\, against which Jean\, a young man from the countryside with no political affiliations\, has to fight as a soldier in the army controlled by the French government. Louise and Jean are in love with each other although they are on opposing sides\, but their love has no place in a time of political turmoil. At the end of the film\, Jean is ordered to dig a grave for Louise\, who has been sentenced to death by the court. \nCultural historian Joseph Horowitz will also be on hand to provide introductory remarks.

This powerlifting competition is unsanctioned\, and welcome to all in the community\, not just limited to SDSU student population. We are just looking to provide a financially affordable and fun introductory opportunity for anyone to join into the great sport of powerlifting.\n\nCost is only $30!\n\nIn addition to our meet\, Special Olympics of South Dakota will be hosting their state meet at the same time! In total\, there will be 4 lifting platforms going on all at once. It will be a busy place within the Wellness Center!\n\nPrizes and awards will be given to the top 3 of each weight class.\n\nMWC is also always looking for volunteers to help out the Special Olympics side of the day\, so if you are interested in that we would be more than happy to have you as well.\n\nRegistration can be found HERE
