Single Track Trail & Pump Park

The same crews who design BMX trails for the Olympics created the Pump Park, while a team from Trail Source LLC, with help from the Brookings Mountain Bike Association, created the Single Track Trail. The result is a bicyclists’ paradise in Brookings.

Located just west of the SouthBrook Softball Complex and north of Dakota Nature Park, the Pump Park features three different tracks, suited for all ages and abilities. It includies a strider track for kids between ages two and five. The Pump Park is accessible through the recreational trail which surrounds Dakota Nature Park.

In case you’re wondering what a pump park is, the name basically says it all. A pump park is designed for you to use your body weight and the wheels of the bike, rather than actually having to pedal.

The Single Track Tail is a single file and single direction trail. It offers different textures, elevations, quick turns and a few different surfaces. The whole system allows riders to advance their skills and become more confident to enjoy the somewhat rocky terrain. This trail is open to the public, but all riders must wear a helmet and be prepared for rough conditions.

*It’s recommended to use a mountain bike for better control versus an average touring bike.

As always, pack out what you pack in; the trail is situated in a natural environment of the nature park.

Rules and regulations are posted on site. If there is ample rainfall, the trail will be closed to prevent further damage.
