Dinner at George’s Pizza:
George’s Pizza, a cherished family-owned establishment since 1971, is a Downtown Brookings staple renowned for its late-night pizza window and authentic Greek dishes. The menu features favorites like gyros, baklava, pasta and a variety of pizzas like Gyro Pizza with cucumber sauce.
Eponymous Brewing Company:
EBC pushes the boundaries to create high-quality local brew. Incorporating local ingredients they offer many varieties such as IPAs, APAs and sours to name a few.
Pro tip: More parking is available in the back or on the side streets.
Saturday – Hobo Day
Kool Beans Coffee and Roasterie:
This cute little coffee shop offers fresh flavorful drinks in the most open and welcoming environment. They have muffins and pastries to snack on along with their small batch coffee for the freshest cup. They also have plenty of seating for catching up with friends!
Pro tip: Check out their specialty drinks each month! A fan favorite is the Paul Bunyan latte in the fall.
Hobo Day Parade:
Starting at 9:30 am the parade is a staple of the Hobo Day tradition. SDSU clubs and organizations along with community organizations are showcased in the parade. The event usually lasts about 90 minutes, though the exact length can vary each year.
Pro tips: Claim your spot early. Downtown fills up fast, parking is limited, and October mornings can be chilly, so dress warm and plan ahead.
Backyard Grill and BBQ:
Nothing says game day like authentic BBQ! Backyard BBQ offers everything from smoked pork ribs to pulled pork sliders. Located in Village Square within walking distance of SDSU campus.
Pro tip: Try their 10 homemade BBQ sauces!
Hobo Day Football Game:
The Hobo Day football game is the ultimate celebration of Jackrabbit pride. It brings students, alumni and the community together. A packed stadium, hours of tailgating and amazing performances are what makes the Hobo Day game the heart of SDSU.
