Check out these events and join us in celebrating America’s 250th
Located on the north exterior wall of the VFW George Dokken Post 2118, the America’s 250th Community Mosaic Mural stands as a vibrant, permanent celebration of local unity and national heritage. Visible to both pedestrians and drivers traveling along 6th Street, this massive public art piece measures approximately 20 feet long and features a beautifully detailed “Americana” theme centered on a patriotic flag and eagle design. A true collaborative masterpiece, the mosaic is comprised of 950 individual tiles, each hand-painted by Brookings area residents, organizations, and volunteers during community painting parties.
America 250th marks a historic milestone for the nation, and South Dakota State University is helping lead the celebration through education, community engagement and events that honor the past while inspiring the future.
