Visit Brookings is pulling out all the stops to celebrate the travel industry during National Travel & Tourism Week. We’re proud to be part of South Dakota’s $4.96 billion dollar industry.
What is National Travel and Tourism Week?
National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) is an annual celebration highlighting the vital role of travel in driving our nation’s economy, fostering vibrant communities, and building connections.
Established in 1983 by the U.S. Travel Association, NTTW has become a cherished tradition. It showcases how travel boosts economic growth, creates quality jobs, inspires new businesses, and enhances the quality of life for Americans every day.
2024 NTTW will be a HOSPITALITY EXPLOSION!
Visit Brookings plans to celebrate employees who work in restaurants, bars, hotels, convenience stores, attractions, meeting venues, and other visitor industry businesses during NTTW. As part of the fun, we’re bringing back a chance to win big and are asking for your help in scoring additional prizes.
Step 1: Be employed (either part-time or full-time) in a hotel, restaurant/food service, bar, attraction, event venue, or convenience store to be eligible to play.
Step 2: Come to the Visit Brookings office at 1321 6th Street during the following dates/times:
- 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm Monday, May 20
- 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Tuesday, May 21
- 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Wednesday, May 22
- 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Thursday, May 23
- 9:00 am – 5:00 pm Friday, May 24
Step 3: Each person will have one (1) chance to play the Hospitality Explosion game. Everyone is a winner!

Visit Brookings Tourism Awards
- Larson Family Tourism Champion Award: 2023 Recipient to Be Announced
- Individual or organization who has worked tirelessly to spread the message and garner support for tourism. Award is given to tourism entities or individuals for outstanding contributions enhancing the quality of life in Brookings and who serve as a role model for others in the industry.
- Tourism Facility/Organization of the Year: 2023 Recipient to Be Announced
- This award is given on based on consideration for increasing tourism in the Brookings area, adding to the tourism product offerings, gaining positive public relations or press for Brookings and having achieved sustained excellence in tourism.
- Extra Mile Award: 2023 Recipient to Be Announced
- The award is to congratulate and thank a recipient for going that “extra mile” in order to advance the tourism industry in Brookings. The individual or organization has made major contributions to generating visitors, servicing and developing tourism in Brookings.
- Hospitality Hero Award: 2023 Recipient to Be Announced
- Recognizes an individual in the Brookings community who strives to provide the best in customer service. This person sets the bar for warm welcomes, exemplary service and customer satisfaction.

We’ve all had great service. Maybe it’s the smile you got first thing in the morning at the drive through. How about the person who made your day by the warm welcome during your last hotel stay?
