Join us for our first ever Fandom Fest! This all-ages pop culture celebration will feature events, photo ops, a cosplay contest, and door prizes! Costumes are encouraged, so feel free to come dressed as your favorite character!
No registration is required, and you can come and go to any or all of the events as you’re interested!
– 10:00am: “Comics Are For Everyone” Talk with Shane Gerlach
Dispelling the myth that comics are for kids, this discussion will take readers from the magical childhood worlds of Mo Willems (Pigeon and Elephant & Piggie series) Dav Pilkey (Captain Underpants, Dog Man) to the young reader adventures of Judd Winnick’s HiLo, & Jeff Smith’s Bone; on through the traditional mythologies, super heroics and New York Times best selling, Tony Winning and Pulitzer prize winning comic books from Authors Gaiman, Willingham, Spiegelman, Bechdel, Moore, Lewis and others.
– 11:15am-12:45pm: Comic Creation Workshop with Hector Curriel (for ages 11 to adult)
Local artist and comic author, Hector Curriel will teach the basic skills you need to create comics. Materials will be provided to practice and start your own comic strip! No registration required!
– 1:00pm-3:00pm: Family Star Wars Party with a visit from the 501st Legion
Enjoy Star Wars photo-ops with the 501st Legion cosplayers, activities, and a snack. Wear your favorite costume!
– 1:15pm: Fandom Fest Trivia
Gather your friends and test your pop culture knowledge with this trivia game! Prizes will be awarded to the winners!
– 3:15pm: Cosplay Contest
Show off your cool cosplay and our judges will choose their favorite costumes. Prizes will be awarded to the winners. There will be categories for participants “14 and under” and “15 and up”!
