Historical Reenactment “Katherine Davis Chapman Tillman: Yankton’s Prolific Lyric Poet and Race Writer”
Event Series:
Brookings Public Library Events
This year, the Library will be honoring Black History Month with a historical reenactment by Joyce Jefferson. Born in Mound City, Illinois in 1870, Katherine Chapman moved to Yankton as a child. Kate, who began writing at a young age, became a prolific writer of poems, plays, short stories, and essays. Audiences will enjoy Kate’s poetry as Jefferson interprets Mrs. Chapman Tillman’s work as if she were living today.
