A Woodbine Productions repeat engagement…Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis made their first-ever stop in South Dakota in 2019 when they brought jazzy holiday favorites to Brookings. This time, we are excited to be one of the limited engagements featuring founder and artistic director, Wynton Marsalis in his final tour at the helm. Bringing the most memorable arrangements that Wynton has done for the JLCO, this tour is only making one stop in South Dakota…and it’s with us!

Wynton Marsalis

Internationally acclaimed trumpeter, composer, bandleader, and educator Wynton Marsalis is one of the most influential voices in jazz today. He serves as Managing and Artistic Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, Director of Jazz Studies at The Juilliard School, and President of the Louis Armstrong Educational Foundation.

A native of New Orleans, Marsalis launched his career with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers before emerging as a global ambassador for jazz. Since his 1982 debut, he has released more than 130 recordings, earned nine Grammy Awards, and became the first jazz artist to receive the Pulitzer Prize for Music. Through his performances, compositions, and lifelong commitment to education, Marsalis has inspired generations of musicians while championing jazz as America’s original art form.

Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra

The Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra is one of the world’s premier jazz ensembles. Comprised of 15 of today’s finest jazz musicians, the orchestra has been the resident orchestra of Jazz at Lincoln Center since 1988, performing throughout the United States and around the world. Under the direction of Wynton Marsalis, the JLCO presents repertoire spanning the history of jazz while commissioning and performing new works that continue to shape the art form.
