Maple Syrup Workshop at McCrory Gardens

SDSU Extension will host a maple syrup workshop on Saturday, March 23, 2024, from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. in the Great Hall of McCrory Gardens.
John Ball, Professor, SDSU Extension Forestry Specialist & South Dakota Department of Agriculture and Natural Resources Forest Health Specialist, will give a presentation on the basics of everything you would need to know about collecting sap from maple trees. He will also have demonstrations of ‘Sap on Tap’ for participants to try some sap.
SDSU Extension Master Gardener, Perry Johnson, will provide some hands-on demonstrations to practice tapping a maple tree. Chris Schlenker, McCrory Gardens Director of Horticulture and Grounds, will also be available to answer any questions one may have about the process McCrory Gardens uses.
This event is free for all and open to the public. There will be free bucket systems for the first 100 participants provided by the USDA through Acer Access and Development Program. Any questions can be directed to Sydney Trio, Education Coordinator & SDSU Extension Horticulture Assistant.
