South Dakota Space Design Competition
About This Event
Work with high school students from across the Midwest to develop a request for proposal for a settlement in space. Network with industry professionals and engineering graduate students and learn how companies work in today’s industries. Be sure to take time to learn more about South Dakota State’s Mars Rover prototype! 2025 scenarios will focus on initial settlements and beginning economic activity near and on Mars!

Event Schedule
Our weekend long event will run roughly as follows. Specific schedule to be confirmed closer to the event:
Saturday
9am: event commences with briefings and team development
11am: students receive RFP and commence work
Sunday
9am: students finish work and submit their designs
10am-12pm: student presentations
12-2pm: tour of the SDSU engineering facilities (including their rover workshop!)
2-3pm: judges feedback and announcement of the winner!
Event Specific Notes:
Participants need to make their way to SDSU in Brookings SD. Please plan accordingly.
This is a multi-day event, with overnight rest areas provided in SDSU facilities. Attendees will be required to bring equipment for rest (blow up mattresses, pillows etc.)
All meals are included across the weekend
