Brookings delivers a well-rounded game day dining experience, from the comforting pizza at George’s to the refreshing brews at Wooden Legs Brewing Company, and the unique dishes at Pheasant Restaurant & Lounge. No matter your craving, Brookings, South Dakota ensures your game day is packed with local flavor.
George’s Pizza
Located in the heart of downtown Brookings, George’s Pizza is a pre-game must-stop for pizza lovers. The casual and simple atmosphere makes it perfect for filling up before cheering on the SDSU Jackrabbits. George’s offers an impressive array of specialty pizzas and an extensive beer list. While traditional pizza is a hit, I opted for their unique pizza nachos. Warm pita chips were generously topped with just the right amount of melted cheese and sausage, accompanied by a cup of rich, flavorful pizza sauce on the side. This unexpected twist was a great way to enjoy pizza in a more shareable, snack-friendly form.
Wooden Legs Brewing Company
Make your way to Wooden Legs Brewing Company and try a creative beer. This brewery has become a Brookings favorite, not just for its variety of craft brews but also for its pizza offerings. I decided to try something different and ordered their Arnold Palmer kettle sour beer. Its tart, refreshing flavor was an ideal palate cleanser, cutting through the heavier game-day foods. This spot is perfect for fans looking to relax before kickoff, while enjoying unique local brews and a menu that celebrates Brookings’ love for pizza.
Pheasant Restaurant & Lounge
The final stop on this food-filled itinerary is the iconic Pheasant Restaurant & Lounge. For something light yet flavorful, I had the ‘Pheasant on the Green’ salad—a cold pheasant wrap served in mixed greens, accompanied by a soft roll and olive oil and vinegar perfect for dipping. To top it off, I enjoyed a rhubarb kolache cocktail, which was strong, creamy, and unlike anything I’ve had before.
