Family Weekend at SDSU

Family Weekend is a great way to enjoy time with your student from September 13-15! There are numerous options for spending your weekend in Brookings with activities hosted by SDSU or finding additional things to do within the community.

Friday

After checking in to your hotel for the weekend, grab your student and explore what Brookings has to offer! Stretch your legs and enjoy the changing colors of the leaves at the Dakota Nature Park. Next head to Downtown Brookings to find your favorite mural, store to shop and grab dinner at a local favorite such as the Pheasant Restaurant & Lounge.

Saturday

Find time to explore a few of Brookings must see attractions and restaurants. Head over to the South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum in the morning for a special Family Weekend Collections Storage tour. Don’t forget to cheer on the SDSU Jackrabbits! Attend Family Weekend Tailgate on campus with food trucks, yard games and family fun. Didn’t get tickets to the game? Go Downtown to Cubby’s and catch the game on one of their many TVs. Afterwards spend the evening bowling at The Lanes! With an on-site restaurant, you will be set for when the hunger strikes.

Sunday

Wrap up your weekend in Brookings by enjoying brunch at Cook’s Kitchen. After breakfast head over to the South Dakota Art Museum to view original works of art including ones by South Dakota native, Harvey Dunn. Next wander over to McCrory Gardens and stroll through the 25-acres of formal gardens as you witness fall making its appearance! From 1-3pm McCrory Gardens is hosting their Party on the Porch featuring live music, food trucks and more.

As you begin to say your goodbyes and plan for the trip home remember that there is still more to see and do the next time you are in Brookings!
