Acid Dyeing Class
- This event has passed.
The South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum is excited to welcome Elizabeth Fox to teach a class on acid dyeing. Participants will employ the dyebath method of dyeing wool, using acid dyes to create a color wheel of wool with primary and secondary colors. Each student will dye 9 mini skeins with a combination of primary colors to see how dyes interact to create new colors. An additional 1-2 mini skeins of a contrasting fiber will also be dyed to experiment with how dyes react to different fibers. All fibers used will be protein (animal) fibers and students may choose to dye a full skein for an extra fee.
The cost for this class is $35 and will cover all materials used in the class. RSVP’s are required and space is limited, so register today!
NOTE: Students should wear clothes that can be stained or a waterproof apron. Gloves and masks will be provided and will be required when chemicals are used to protect from citric acid and dye powder.
