In honor of Native American Heritage Month, the Brookings Public Library is hosting speakers from across the state and country to discuss Native history, culture, and issues.

This week’s lecture is “Seven Things Everyone Should Know About American Indians in South Dakota” by Dr. Craig Howe.

This research-based presentation provides a basic background for increasing one’s knowledge and understanding of American Indians in South Dakota. It explores seven essential topics, ranging from the words we use to the lands within which we live. The presentation focuses on encouraging people to apply the information shared to their decision-making regarding American Indian issues now and in the future.
