Friday
Kick off your weekend with a warm and hearty dinner after checking into your accommodation.
Every January and February, the Brookings Area Burger Clash has 20+ restaurants competing for the rights to the best burger in town. Not up for a burger? Try Flavor for Asian fare or you can’t go wrong with George’s Pizza, a Brookings staple.
Saturday
Wake up on Saturday and enjoy a fresh cup of coffee and baked goods at Choco Latte. While you are there pick up an assortment of handmade candy for later. You will not regret it!
Bundle up and head to Dakota Nature Park for a morning outdoors. Depending on the weather and snow in Brookings, you can walk or cross-country ski on the trails. Equipment rentals are available at the Larson Nature Center. Keep an eye on their Facebook for different events hosted during your visit.
Head to Downtown Brookings next to warm up and enjoy lunch at one of the many restaurants. Nick’s Hamburger Shop has been serving guests since 1929 and specializes in slider-style burgers and homemade pies. After lunch wander the different stores and boutiques to find new SDSU Jackrabbit gear, homewares and more.
While Downtown, visit the Brookings Arts Council to view the latest local artist’s exhibit. With an ever-changing gallery, there is always something new to see. Want to see more art? Check out the South Dakota Art Museum. Both are free to visit.
Grab a drink and enjoy the atmosphere at one of the local breweries in Brookings. Wooden Legs and Eponymous, located Downtown, serve a variety of their own brews along with other craft beers as well as non-alcoholic options. Wooden Legs serves pizza, sandwiches and appetizers or venture to another location Downtown for dinner.
Sunday
Before you head out of town, enjoy brunch at Cook’s Kitchen. Cook’s is known for their comfort food and large serving sizes. The biscuits and gravy, cinnamon rolls or pancakes are the locals’ favorites.
