Children’s Museum of South Dakota

Spark some imagination at the Children’s Museum of South Dakota! With hands-on exhibits, exciting classes and day camps, the Outdoor Prairie and Cafe Coteau make this attraction a must-stop for anyone visiting Brookings.

Located in Downtown Brookings at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Kidoodle Way, this is South Dakota’s only museum with 44,000 square feet of indoor exhibit space and 4-acres of outdoor prairie. The museum welcomes families from across the U.S. and the world, offering discovery through play and hands-on activities for all children and grownups. The museum is housed in the historic Central Elementary School, originally built in 1936.

Imagination runs wild inside, as well as outside where the only full-size, permanent animatronic T. Rex in the US, Mama, is on display with her baby Max.
