Hillcrest Aquatic Center
The Hillcrest Aquatic Center will remain closed for the summer season in Brookings, SD. Read the full press release.
“The decision was based largely on the fact that operating the Aquatic Center under COVID-19 related guidelines for sanitizing, social distancing and group size would not be cost-efficient. Also, monitoring such efforts could prove to be a challenge for staff whose traditional focus is on water safety. With all changes that would be necessary, an outcome that would provide the Aquatic Center’s customarily enjoyable experience could not be reached. Additionally, it was not assured risk could be mitigated to the extent acceptable to staff.”
The Hillcrest Aquatic Center features a huge, zero-depth leisure pool, enclosed body slide and open tube slide with sand play areas as well as a separate deck that can be rented for parties. With its tree-topping slides, fountains, “plumber’s nightmare,” climb-aboard decks and piping that drizzles, drips, sprays and splashes pool-goers, the water park can keep the whole family entertained for an entire day and then some. Concession stands provide all the fun food necessary to satisfy the hungry and the thirsty. Pack your towel, shades and a good read, abundant grass areas surround the leisure pool for easy lounging.
The Hillcrest Aquatic Center is typically open Memorial Day through the weekend before Labor Day.
