Brookings has embraced the pickleball craze with the recent opening of new pickleball courts at Hillcrest Park. Located on the corner of US Highway 14 (6th Street) and 17th Avenue, Hillcrest Park has opportunities waiting for all ages.
The courts are available between 6 a.m. and 11 p.m. daily with no reservations needed. Join the hype by packing a paddle and challenging friends and family to a game.
Pickleball combines the best of tennis and ping pong, making it accessible and enjoyable for everyone. Participation has skyrocketed by 223% over the past three years, according to AP Journal.
Hillcrest Park offers many other recreational opportunities including tennis, horseshoes, basketball, a walking trail, a 50-meter pool, family picnic shelters and public restrooms. This is a great one-stop spot to stretch your legs while enjoying competition surrounded by trees to provide shade.
Be on the lookout for pickleball tournaments and thrilling events such as Pickle and Pint at the new courts.
The new courts are funded by the Wellmark Foundation, the Land & Water Conservation and generous local donors. These courts enhance the relaxation and recreation in Brookings.
