Centennial Pioneer Cabin
The Centennial Log Cabin in Brookings stands as a tribute to the city’s pioneer homesteaders, offering visitors a glimpse into the past. Dedicated on July 4, 1989, this cabin was the result of a community effort led by the Brookings Area Genealogical Society, prompted by Governor Mickelson’s call for each community to celebrate South Dakota’s centennial.
Built using logs hand-selected from trees native to the area alongside the Big Sioux River, the cabin serves as a lasting symbol of the hard work and contributions of Brookings’ earliest settlers.
