South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum

Located on the campus of South Dakota State University, the South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum is dedicated to preserving and inspiring a passion for the history of agriculture and the rural way of life in South Dakota. Inside the museum special, permanent exhibits illustrate our state’s heritage, like the enormous 1915 J.I. Case Steam Traction Engine 65 horsepower, a replica 1915 farmhouse and an 1862 homestead shanty. Even the outside of the museum was restored to its 1925 appearance. The museum offers numerous educational opportunities through tours, special programs, or group tours. And don’t forget about the Museum Store, which offers guests the opportunity to buy items relating to South Dakota’s culture, agriculture, and history, as well as handmade items from local and regional residents.

The South Dakota Agricultural Heritage Museum is also part of our Brookings Great 8 Passport program, encourging visitors and locals to explore our one-of-a-kind attractions.
