Game, Fish & Parks

For the outdoor enthusiasts, our diverse landscape lends itself to some of the best hunting and fishing in the region.

South Dakota is known for its great outdoor opportunities, which can be seen through our love of bright orange vests and camo-covered vehicles. While on your outdoor adventure, keep an eye out for pheasant, duck, geese and deer; the most common game animals found in the area. While some prefer to stay on land, others prefer getting on the boat and dropping a line. With more than a dozen lakes surrounding the Brookings area, you’re sure to get something tugging on your line. For more information, rules and licensing, contact the Game, Fish and Parks Department.

WINTER ACTIVITIES

The fun doesn’t stop when the snow hits the ground. Snowmobilers ride the numerous groomed trails throughout Eastern South Dakota. The trails on the Eastern side provide plenty of opportunities to explore the landscape and great small communities along the way. Immediate access from Brookings is the Coteau Des Prairies trail system, which includes 367 miles of trails. Click here for a detailed map.
