The west entry of Brookings lends its beauty to Pioneer Park. Nestled among trees, the park serves as a playground for young and old. In the warmer months, the bandshell hosts musical acts as well as performers for the annual Brookings Summer Arts Festival. Other amenities include a basketball court, sand volleyball, playground equipment and a wide, open field for other various outdoor activities. Pioneer Park is also home to the Centennial Pionner Cabin, which was constructed using trees native to South Dakota as a tribute to Brookings' first homesteaders. For parties and family reunions, shelters in the park can be reserved by contacting the Brookings Parks, Recreation & Forestry Department.
